Thordon Bearings has opened a third manufacturing plant, known as Plant 3, at 3180 Mainway in Burlington, Ontario, a short distance from its head office at 3225 Mainway. The company describes the opening as a response to growth across all of its business segments and rising demand for its bearings and seals.
Plant 3 will mainly produce the company's TG100 water-lubricated mechanical seals and water quality packages for the marine and hydropower markets. The building will also house Thordon's New Product Development team and the operations of its sister company, Marsh Brothers Aviation. According to the company, the additional space is meant to support production of non-bearing equipment, increase output, shorten lead times, and support future product development. Chair and CEO Anna Galoni said the new space lets Thordon and Marsh Brothers Aviation reconfigure assembly, machining, and office areas to improve throughput and productivity, while the head office gains capacity for further manufacturing and workforce growth.
Thordon says its workforce has grown 32% since the end of 2023, with new roles in management, sales, and production at both locations, and it expects further growth. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, officials included Government of Canada MP Karina Gould, Government of Ontario MPP Natalie Pierre, and Terry Caddo, President and CEO of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce. Galoni cited Burlington's skilled workforce, government support, and quality of life, and noted that the plant's proximity to the main facility supports collaboration.
